The Squall

An observation on the swift arrival of rain across the inland water.

First comes the scent of static electric across the grass, then the dark shelf of cloud that blots the sun.

The lake turns grey as sheet metal under the wind, and the reeds bend like worshippers before the gale.

Then the first heavy drop strikes the tin roof of the tackle shop and all the birds go mute.
